Job description
Job objectives: Majority of Havenhill's mini-grid customers (and users) are farmers spread
across the several rural communities we serve. An increase in their productivity is a win-win
for them and Havenhill. As our in-house Agriculture specialist, your job will be to help those
farmers maximize their output through established agricultural practices.
In addition to the above, Havenhill intends to maximize value by increasing the overall income
profile and productive capacity of the community. We intend to do this tapping into the
agricultural value chain leveraging on the strength of each of the communities we serve. You
will be responsible for identifying these opportunities and helping the company execute the
ideas.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct research, analyse the needs of farmers and sensitize the community on
agricultural products their output;
- Assist farmers in improving farming activities in rural areas where Havenhill mini grids
are located;
- Work closely with the Business Development Associate in identifying energy and
agricultural opportunities within the host communities of the mini grids deployed by
the company.
- Optimize field practices and suggest ideas for agro processing in host communities.
- Work collaboratively with the technical supervisor and technicians on providing
necessary recommendations where necessary (e.g. efficient processing machines to be
deployed etc.);
- Recommend new agricultural processes to farmers and management of the
organisation;
- Prepare and conduct advisory information sessions and lectures for farmers and other
relevant groups;
Qualification / skills required:
- Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural science or any related field;
- 0-2 years of experience;
- Comprehensive knowledge of agricultural biodiversity and best agricultural practices;
- Considerable knowledge of modern agricultural methods and experimental farming
practices;
- Considerable knowledge of animal science research methods, techniques and
procedures;
- Knowledge of processes and standards of farming, farm equipment, materials and
maintenance techniques;
- In-depth knowledge of the national and international agricultural policies and
guidelines;
- Possess outstanding communication and organizational skills;
- Possess multitasking skills and the ability to function effectively as a member of a
multidisciplinary team.
