About the Role | Communications Senior Associate - India

The communications team at CLASP promotes understanding of the critical role for appliance and equipment efficiency in addressing climate change and for low-carbon development. CLASP is seeking a mid-career communications professional to join their New Delhi office. This is a matrixed role that combines communications and outreach with fundraising, development & donor reporting. The Communications Senior Associate - India will be part of a global communications team reporting to Chief of Communications in Washington DC and be embedded in the New Delhi Office. The Senior Associate will initially support communications in South Asia – with a primary focus on India, but also covering program activities in Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh – and expand to include CLASP’s global portfolio in Southeast Asia and beyond.

The Communications Senior Associate will work closely with CLASP's program team in New Delhi and colleagues around the world to raise the profile and visibility of CLASP, developing compelling and engaging stories about the impact of our work, and how investments in efficiency benefit people and the planet. The Senior Associate will be exposed to a wide range of people and issues in the global climate and energy sectors, as well as the internal infrastructure and operations of a fast-growing international NGO. The Senior Associate will work with, learn from, and grow along side a high-performing team, preparing the individual to continue on a career path in national, regional or international organizations.

Key Responsibilities | Communications Senior Associate - India

  • Thought leadership : Working with India and other teams to identify, develop, and fine- tune high-level narratives connecting their work to related and intersectional issues.
  • Digital media : Contributing to the overall health & calendar of CLASP’s website, newsletter, and social media presence. Develop and coordinate content for newsletters. Write articles and other communications materials for news announcements and research reports.
  • Editorial calendar: Contributing to the organization’s editorial calendar, guiding publication & dissemination timelines. Develop tailored dissemination plans for different research outputs and deliverables. Evaluate and revise materials to ensure quality and high-level messaging.
  • Fundraising & reporting : Working closely with the team to develop proposals and donor reports; this will include active listening and editing to ensure that narrative pieces connect to strategy. Additionally, an Associate will be responsible for Research grant-making institutions and Managing grant reporting, including setting timelines and reviewing team contributions.
  • Campaigns : Developing and executing social media and media campaigns on urgent and impactful issues.
  • Sharing data & analysis: Working with program and research leads to lead communications efforts with the right data for persuasive storytelling. Contribute to the development of new graphics and data visualization tools for use on social media and the website.
  • Advocacy : Overseeing or providing expert guidance for local communications campaigns.
  • Media engagement : Working with the team to identify opportunities for press and media engagement; develop pitches and relationships with reporters to elevate CLASP’s presence in national and international news outlets.
  • Partner : Partnering with other organization’s communication professionals to cross-promote and amplify efforts and impacts.
  • Coordinating across teams to ensure consistent programmatic support on communications, including support to program team members on reports and presentations for stakeholders.

What You'll Need

  • A Minimum of 4 to 5 years of professional experience.
  • Persuasive, excellent writer and fastidious Editor.
  • A proven ability to engage with scientific, technical, or policy information, and to effectively communicate that information to different stakeholders. Preferred: experience in international development, climate change, energy, and/or other intersectional environmental and/or human rights issues.
  • Comfortable with excel and concepts of data visualization.
  • Comfortable with various communications software and applications – we use Zoho campaigns (newsletters); WordPress (website); Adobe (graphic design); Canva (graphic design); Sprout Social (social media); etc.
  • Excellent visual eye – understands how photography & data drive storytelling, and can make it happen. Proven ability to take tell stories in a variety of formats: web, print narratives and briefs, digital media, and social media.
  • Recent experience engaging national or international media.
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion. You're always asking: "whose voice is not at the table?"
  • Experience working with diverse teams and successfully navigating cross-cultural communication in both local and global contexts.

Compensation and Location

CLASP offers competitive compensation commensurate with experience and includes a collegial office environment that supports wellness and flexible telecommuting options after a certain period of employment. This position will be based in the organization's New Delhi office, but is currently virtual. Early morning or evening hours are sometimes necessary to accommodate international collaboration; some travel and weekend hours may also be required. We are an equal opportunity employer.
