About the Role 

Shortlist is looking for a Finance and Accounts Executive, with experience in finance operations and related functions, BvA analysis, as well as excellent communication. Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Finance & Accounts Executive will handle all aspects of Accounts Receivable (AR), partial to full Accounts Payable (AP), General Ledger Support for the monthly closing process and annual audit, as well as provide support to the regional offices regarding the finance function. This role will work across the organisation and should possess a collaborative communication style. 

The Accountant will work in Shortlist’s Nairobi office (remote until the time it’s safe to return to offices) and will work collaboratively with Shortlist team members in India, Nairobi, Zambia and other new locations that the organisation may expand operations to, conducting critical finance tasks and ensuring others on the finance team are set up to develop and execute objectives successfully.

This is a position for an individual who has a zeal to take fiduciary responsibilities towards the company and its stakeholders with the prospect of outstanding personal and professional growth opportunities. A suitable candidate is one who is motivated and interested in expanding their responsibilities, as the company expands.

The position reports to the Financial Controller who is based in Mumbai, India. You will also be interacting with the various functional heads, including but not limited to, Co-founders, HR, BU heads.

What would you be doing?

  • Own the process of ‘cash conversion cycle’ i.e. leading the process of timely billing and collections from the client. 
  • Manage the receivables turnover ratio.
  • Cash flow Management including payment to vendor/service providers, employees and KRA/other government authorities.
  • Lead the financial reporting of the company including bank reconciliation, expense recording, preparing and presenting monthly financial statements, monthly BvA analysis.
  • Help in standardising and improving existing workstreams. 
  • Work with cross-functional teams to support sales, solutions, and operations. 
  • As an integral part of a startup, you would be expected to spend time on improving existing processes and systems as we scale up and work with cross-functional teams such as product, tech and customer support teams to contribute to the overall growth of the organisation.
  • Act as a living representation of our team values. 

Who you are

Must-haves

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Taxation. Master's is a plus.
  • You have 2-3 years of experience in the management of finance and accounts operations.
  • You have hands-on experience in compliance reporting in Nairobi, Kenya.
  • You have experience with Quickbooks online version or an equivalent software accounting package.
  • You are an excellent communicator in both verbal and written English.
  • You have an eye for detail.

Nice to Haves

  • You have prior experience of working with cross-functional, multi-geography stakeholders.
