Job description

About the role:

BURN already has operations in many countries in both East and West Africa and will expand further in the coming months and years. To ensure compliance with tax and other statutory requirements, BURN is looking for a Global Tax & Compliance Officer. Reporting to the CFO, you will be responsible for taking a lead role in a broad range of tax and statutory compliance matters across all areas where BURN operates.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that all companies in the BURN group comply with all laws and regulations regarding taxes and other statutory requirements.
  • Oversee timely and correct tax reporting and follow-up of tax payments/refunds.
  • Research and analysis of tax legislation in countries where we are operational and intend to expand into.
  • Review of tax treaties and local tax law to manage corporate permanent establishment issues and choice of entity in foreign jurisdictions.
  • Working collaboratively with local in-country advisors to ensure direct, indirect and personal taxes are being managed appropriately in foreign countries.
  • Maintaining Tax, Compliance & Statutory returns calendar for the BURN group.
  • Together with the CFO develop tax strategies to minimize overall taxation of the group.
  • International tax structuring.
  • Identify and mitigate tax risks.
  • Management of tax audits for the BURN group of companies as they arise.
  • Improve processes by developing or implementing best practices.


Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in a tax compliance role with exposure to different taxing systems and in international taxation matters.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills to proactively manage a geographically diverse business.
  • An understanding and experience of the structures and tax planning approaches used in international corporations.
  • Big 4 experience a plus.


Education Background

  • Qualifications in Accounting and/or Taxation coupled with CA/CPA qualifications.
  • Master's degree would be an added benefit.
