Job description

AMI is looking for an experienced Product Manager – Learning (Agile) to manage AMI’s core learning and content development pipeline – including the Agile content / learning design processes, resource allocation, and day to day team management. The Product Manager – Learning (Agile) will focus on managing the efficient development of learning products – including online courses and resources, virtual and face-to-face workshops and the management of the content translation pipeline. The PM-Learning will be responsible for establishing and managing agile processes of content development – including focused on data-driven decision-making to prioritise learning development priorities, improve processes, manage rituals of SCRUM (sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives), and manage resources – leading the day-to-day management of learning development specialists.

In this role, you will be in charge of ensuring that learning design and content development priorities are met and projects completed on time and on budget. You'll collaborate with product and learning specialists across the product team to develop and manage AMI’s learning assets. As an Agile process expert with experience developing learning content, you'll need to be able to thrive and succeed in a very collaborative, fast-paced environment with competing priorities. 

The successful candidate will:

  • Maintain core learning content analytics – using data to help develop strategic priorities to continue to build world-leading learning products and to inform learning product innovation.
  • Manage efficient repeatable processes for learning product development – processes and planning for product development (including efficient QA processes)
  • Plan product development pipeline (work with other product managers and sales leads to define development pipeline – including learning design, content development, translation and customisation)
  •  Allocate resources and manage new learning development projects (Agile / Kanban)
  • Manage the learning development team day to day – allocating projects, managing performance, and ensuring collaborative and supportive working culture in the team
  • Work with Product Managers and functional leaders (content/design) to build and manage product assets (review, updating, maintenance of core asset libraries)
  • Maintain core product process documentation, pricing, project plans and templates
  • Work within product management team to prepare new product / content / programme launch and product support communications 
  • Ensure IP/assets are catalogued, tagged and backed-up


Skills & attributes

  • Experience in processes of Product Management – including using customer insights, data and feedback to make strategic product decisions
  • Knowledge of agile content development processes – agile methodology and ability to handle multiple priorities in a very fluid working environment 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to edit and perform quality assurance (QA) on content related projects
  • High proficiency and productivity in G Suite tools, including Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, etc.
  • Ability to work on your own and manage diverse teams – fostering collaborative work flows across teams
  • Work well with people. Culturally adept. Ability to communicate effectively across different levels, with local and international teams and stakeholders
  •  Willingness to engage in robust debate alongside deep respect for others
  • Absolutely rock-solid integrity


Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years of related agile content and learning design experience or instructional design and development experience
  • Experience working in learning development / content development role
  • Strong people management skills – managing diverse teams of specialists
  •  Masters degree or equivalent experience
  •  AMI will consider candidates from any country, but preference will be given to African nationals. Candidates must be willing to live in Africa, Nairobi preferred, and free to travel across Africa.
