Engineering Intern - Clean Cooking

Job description

Location: Turkana, Kenya

Start date: 1st May, 2024

Duration: To January 2025

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the design and development of clean cooking appliances tailored to the needs of the Lake Turkana-Kakuma Fish Value Chain project.
  2. Support prototype design and testing activities, including drafting design concepts, creating prototypes, and conducting performance evaluations.
  3. Conduct research on clean cooking technologies, including biomass stoves, solar cookers, and other relevant innovations, to identify potential solutions for the project.
  4. Collaborate with the engineering team to optimize appliance performance, efficiency, and durability.
  5. Assist in data collection and analysis to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of clean cooking solutions within the value chain.
  6. Participate in meetings, workshops, and field visits to gather insights, provide technical support, and contribute to project discussions.
  7. Contribute to documentation and reporting activities, including preparing technical reports, presentations, and project updates as required.
  8. Stay updated on emerging trends, best practices, and technological advancements in the field of clean cooking to inform project implementation.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in engineering, preferably with a focus on mechanical/electrical engineering, renewable energy, or related fields.
  • Strong interest in clean cooking technologies, renewable energy systems, and sustainable development.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and other engineering design tools is desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and willingness to adapt to new challenges and tasks.
